  3. Another Markdown app

Use another Markdown app with Take Toucan

Any Mac app that can open a folder and save plain .md files can write scripts for Take Toucan.

What you’ll get

Markdown files saved directly in the opened folder appear in Take Toucan after iCloud sync.

Take Toucan does not require its own Mac app. You are connecting the Mac app you already write with to one iCloud folder.

On your Mac

Follow the screenshots

Keep this page open on your phone or another window while you complete each action on your Mac.

Step 1 of 1

Open the folder

In your writing app, choose Open Folder, Open Workspace, or Open Vault. Then choose Take Toucan under iCloud Drive and choose Open.

Choose Take Toucan under iCloud Drive, then choose Open. Choose the image to enlarge.

One folder, two names

Finder shows

iCloud Drive › Take Toucan

=

Your writing tool may show

Documents

These are the same iCloud-backed folder. Choose Take Toucan in Finder even if the writing app later labels it Documents.

Final check

Can you see the Take Toucan files?

Your setup is complete when the writing tool can see:

  • Demo — Present Over Perfect.md
  • VOICE.md
  • AGENTS.md

Nothing is copied or moved. Your Mac and iPhone are looking at the same files through iCloud.

No final screenshot needed

File lists look different in every Markdown app. Use the three filenames on the left as your confirmation.

Try it now

Start with one small action

These quick checks help the folder feel like a practical writing space, not a technical setup task.

Open the demo script

Open Demo — Present Over Perfect.md from the file list. You can read or edit it like any other Markdown file.

Write a new script

Create a new Markdown file in the opened folder and write the spoken script in the file body.

Start an ideas note

Create _ideas.md in the opened folder. The leading underscore keeps the note out of Take Toucan’s script list.

Advanced help

You should not need paths or troubleshooting for the normal setup. They are here if iCloud or a folder picker behaves unexpectedly.

Before you start+
  • Open Take Toucan on iPhone at least once so it can create the folder and starter files.
  • Turn on iCloud Drive on the iPhone and Mac, and use the same Apple Account on both.
  • Wait for iCloud to finish syncing. Finder may briefly show a cloud icon beside Take Toucan.
  • Complete these steps in a Mac writing tool. Take Toucan itself does not require a Mac app.
The folder’s technical Mac path+

Finder deliberately presents the app container as iCloud Drive › Take Toucan. Some writing tools expose its internal working folder name, Documents. They refer to the same iCloud-backed folder.

~/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~co~uk~designaway~TakeToucanV2/Documents

Use the technical path only with Finder’s Go to Folder command (⌘⇧G) when the normal iCloud Drive picker is unavailable.

Troubleshooting and sync recovery+

Folder doesn't appear in Finder

Confirm iCloud Drive is on, open Take Toucan on iPhone once, wait for sync, and check you're signed into the same Apple ID.

Take Toucan missing under iCloud Drive

Open the iPhone app once, confirm iCloud Drive is enabled for Take Toucan, and give Finder a moment to sync.

The writing tool calls the folder Documents

That is expected. Finder presents iCloud Drive › Take Toucan, while some folder pickers expose the app container's working folder as Documents. They are the same iCloud-backed folder.

Scripts don't show on iPhone

Confirm the file is .md (not .txt), not a reserved name (README.md, VOICE.md, _*.md, AGENTS.md), and pull to refresh on the dashboard.

AI created a file but the app doesn't see it

Files must be directly in the opened Take Toucan folder, not in a subfolder.

Edits not syncing

Check iCloud status and avoid editing the same file on two Macs before sync completes.

Normal sync sequence

  1. Save your .md file directly in the opened Take Toucan folder on Mac.
  2. Wait for iCloud to sync (usually seconds to a minute).
  3. Open Take Toucan on iPhone and pull to refresh on the dashboard.
  4. Your script appears. Tap it and record with the teleprompter.
